Resort Heritage

Founded: 1952 (72+ Years)

Area: 72 Hectares (60% Nature)

Lifetime Visitors: 150+ Million

Unique Foundation Ownership

The Foundation Model: No Outside Shareholders

Unlike commercial corporate theme park conglomerates, Efteling is 100% owned by the non-profit Stichting Natuurpark Efteling. We have no external shareholders or venture capitalists demanding quarterly dividends. Every single cent of profit is continuously reinvested into nature conservation, historic fairytale restoration, sustainable technology, and creating new artistic wonders for future generations.

The Masterminds

The Architects of Fairytale Wonder

In 1952, three men united art, mechanical invention, and nature stewardship.

A

Anton Pieck

Master Illustrator & Visual Genius (1895–1987)

The Dutch artist whose romantic, nostalgic storybook aesthetic defined Efteling's visual soul. Pieck insisted that only authentic, durable materials be used: real stone, weathered timber, hand-forged wrought iron, and fairytale moss. He gave Efteling its timeless, living storybook atmosphere.

P

Peter Reijnders

Filmmaker & Mechanical Inventor (1900–1974)

The brilliant technical engineer who brought Anton Pieck's static drawings into living mechanical reality. Reijnders invented the mechanical illusions for Sleeping Beauty, the magical talking trash bins (Holle Bolle Gijs), and the enchanting clockwork movements throughout the Fairytale Forest.

M

Mayor R.J. van der Heijden

Mayor of Loon op Zand & Visionary Founder

Conceived the visionary idea to create a nature and recreation park to bring economic vitality, health, and joy to the Brabant countryside following World War II, establishing the charitable foundation that owns the park to this day.
